Could Aitor Karanka’s spell in charge of Championship giants Nottingham Forest be over? Primeira Liga powerhouses Sporting Lisbon need a new manager.

Jose Peseiro paid the price for a disappointing start to the season for Sporting Lisbon on Thursday.
The 58-year-old returned to the Estadio Jose Alvalade in July for a second spell in charge of the Portuguese giants. But Peseiro has lasted just four months, a 2-1 cup defeat to second tier Estoril proving to be the final straw.
As a result, Sporting are on the lookout for a replacement – and this could have a major impact on Nottingham Forest’s season.
According to Calciomercato, Sporting have already contacted Aitor Karanka about potentially taking over from Peseiro. It is understood that they have initiated early talks with the former Middlesbrough boss – and it will cost less than £5 million to get him out of his contract at Nottingham Forest.
Interestingly, this coincides with recent claims from The Mail that Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is unhappy about his side’s slow start to the season.

The East Midland giants spend over £25 million on 15 new players in an attempt to end their long exile from the Premier League but Karanka has led Forest to just five wins out of 15 league games and suffered an embarrassing 3-2 EFL Cup defeat to third tier Burton Albion on Tuesday.
Calciomercato reports that Massimo Carrera, sacked by Spartak Moscow a week ago, is another option for the Sporting Lisbon job.
Carrera, a former assistant to Antonio Conte at Juventus and Italy, led Spartak to their Russian Premier League title in 16 years back in 2017.
