Guido Carrillo did not score a single Premier League goal for Southampton and could now be on his way to Spain with La Liga outfit Leganes.
The most expensive striker in Southampton’s history could leave without ever scoring a goal.
The Saints paid a club-record £19 million to sign Guido Carrillo from Ligue 1 giants Monaco in the January transfer window but, in his first few months in English football, the Argentine managed just seven league appearances and not a single goal.
In fact, Carrillo played just seven minutes of football since Mark Hughes replaced Mauricio Pellegrino in the dugout back in May. And, according to the Mirror (2 June, page 48), Southampton are now looking to cash in on Carrillo just five months after he arrived.
And it seems that a reunion with Pellegrino is on the cards.
27-year-old Carrillo has worked with Pellegrino at both Southampton and at Estudiantes in his native Argentina and Spanish outlet AS is claiming that they are set to link up for a third time at La Liga outfit Leganes.
The former Valencia and Alaves boss was appointed as the new manager of Leganes back in June. And it is understood that Carrillo is very close to joining him with Leganes putting the target man at the top of their wish list as they make a new centre-forward their priority.
It is understood that Carrillo is in advanced talks with Leganes, who believe that a deal can be struck in ‘no time’.
The report does not make clear whether or not the move would be a temporary or permanent one, but Leganes hardly have money to burn so it seems more likely that Carrillo would only be moving to Spain on loan.
