Could three-time Champions League winning centre-back Pepe be on his way to the Premier League to save Southampton from relegation?

Pepe is one of the most successful defenders of the modern era.
A 101 time Portugal international, the former Real Madrid hero has won three La Liga titles, two Copas Del Rey and even lifted the Champions League in three successive seasons, helping Los Blancos become the first team in the competition’s history to achieve such a feat.
Now, could he be on his way to the South Coast to save Southampton from relegation as he enters the autumn of his career?
According to Sabah, The Saints tried and failed to sign Pepe from Turkish giants Besiktas during the summer transfer window and it is understood that they will make a second attempt in January with the need for a new centre-back becoming very clear in recent weeks.

And while Besiktas blocked Pepe’s departure a few months ago, they may be more willing to let the 35-year-old go in the winter. It is understood that he is out of contract in the summer so the 2017 Super Lig giants could cash in, particularly as they need the money.
Pepe could be the sort of signing that galvanises Southampton on and off the pitch, adding real leadership and big-game nous in the dressing room while offering an immediate upgrade on the struggling Jannick Vestergaard or Wesley Hoedt.
