Southampton sent a scout to watch Scott Banks during Dundee United’s Betfred Cup clash against Cowdenbeath.

Southampton are interested in highly-rated Dundee United starlet Scott Banks and scouted him last Friday, according to the Scottish Sun.
There are few clubs around better than The Saints when it comes to identifying talented youngsters and turning them into established first-team players.
And, in Ralph Hasenhuttl, the South Coast side have a manager who was responsible for the rise of Timo Werner, Marcel Halstenberg and co over at RB Leipzig.
Southampton already have one former Dundee United midfielder on their books in Stuart Armstrong and, according to The Sun, the dynamic Scot could be joined at St Mary’s by Banks.
An attacking midfielder, the teenager has been tipped for big things at Tannadice and showed what all the fuss was about in the Tangerines’ 3-0 thrashing of Cowdenbeath in the Betfred Cup on Friday. Banks was named the Man of the Match and, unsurprisingly, the Southampton scout who attended the game came away very pleased.
“Scott is a good player and has good technique. He wants to do well, wants to learn and listens,” Dundee United boss Robbie Nielson told The Herald after the game.
Obviously they would rather not lose their most exciting young talent this summer, particularly as Dundee United are desperate to seal a return to the Scottish Premiership as soon as possible.
But could a move to Southampton be too good to turn down? If Banks is going to leave for England at such a young age, there are worst places for him to realise his potential.
