Could Southampton be on their way to signing another thrilling young forward in Dutch international Danjuma?
Southampton have joined Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Club Brugge’s wantaway winger Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld, according to Voetbal International.
Brugge have already lost star striker Wesley Moraes to Aston Villa this summer and reports from Holland suggest that Dutch international Danjuma could be following the Brazilian to England in the near future.
A skilful 22-year-old with a real eye for goal, Voetbal International reports that Danjuma is keen to leave the Jupiler League behind this summer as he looks to prove himself at a higher level.
Fortunately, there are clubs queuing up to give him that chance. Inter Milan and Spurs have both been linked over the last few months and the report claims that they are still very much interested, while Southampton have joined the race.
It has been a busy summer so far for The Saints with over £50 million already spent on enhancing an attacking which looked one-paced and toothless for much of last season. Danny Ings, Che Adams and Moses Djenepo have arrived already and Danjuma is likely to also cost a substantial fee.
Interestingly, he was handed his Netherlands debut by former Southampton boss Ronald Koeman in October, scoring in his second appearance against Belgium.
Back in February, meanwhile, Brugge coach Ivan Leko likened Danjuma’s influence to that of Mo Salah at Liverpool and Neymar at PSG, speaking to Voetbal International.
And, if he arrives at St Mary’s, Ralph Hasenhuttl will suddenly find himself with three of the Premier League’s most exciting young forwards at his disposal, not to mention Nathan Redmond and Michael Obafemi.
