Mark Hughes got the best out of Geoff Cameron at Stoke City and a reunion could be on the cards with Premier League Southampton.
Geoff Cameron is the latest player to be linked with a move away from Stoke City after their relegation from the Premier League.
Cameron joined Stoke in 2012 during the reign of Tony Pulis but came into his own during his time under Hughes, where his ability to play in a variety of positions, including full-back, centre half and defensive midfield, made him a key player under the Welshman.
The report adds that Cameron has a release clause in his contract, although it is understood that the figure is in excess of £5 million. Southampton, then, would have to pay a substantial fee for a player who will turn 33 next month.
Stoke boss Gary Rowett, however, will be hoping to keep Cameron at the Bet 365 Stadium – even if the Potters are hoping to reduce the average age of their squad.
Rowett is a big fan of Cameron and the USA international’s experience and versatility would be very helpful with Stoke aiming to make their stay in the Championship a short one.
But, should he move to St Mary’s this summer, Cameron could provide some much needed depth in Southampton’s defence.
