Premier League newcomers Fulham are reportedly determined to bring England U21 left-back Matt Targett back to Craven Cottage from Southampton.

Matt Targett of Fulham shows appreciation to the fans after the Sky Bet Championship match between Fulham and Leeds United at Craven Cottage on April 3, 2018 in London, England.

Southampton know how much Fulham want to sign Matt Targett after the left-back’s terrific spell at Craven Cottage in the second half of last season. And the South Coast club appear determined to squeeze every penny out of the Premier League newcomers.

According to the Mail (live blog, 1.12pm), Fulham have made a bid of £12 million for Targett but that has been turned down.

That is the second offer Slavisa Jokanovic’s side have made for the England U21 international.

And the report comes after the Daily Echo stated that Fulham were expected to make a new bid for Targett, who is understood to want regular first-team football next season, after spending the last three years stuck behind Ryan Bertrand at St Mary’s.

Targett featured 18 times in the Championship for Fulham between January and May as the West London club were promoted to the Premier League, beating Aston Villa in a tense play-off final at Wembley.

The Daily Echo claims that Southampton value the 22-year-old at £15 million, meaning Fulham must pay another £3 million to get the deal across the line.

The Cottagers have already spent big this summer and the Mail adds that they are now in talks to sign Anderlecht centre-back Kara Mbodji.
