Timothe Nkada is highly rated at Ligue 1 outfit Rennes and could reportedly be on his way to the Premier League with Southampton.

Southampton are interested in signing Rennes striker Timothe Nkada, according to Foot Mercato.

The France youth international is due to become a free agent at the end of this season with his contract expiring in July. And Nkada’s excellent record in Rennes’ colours – he has scored 11 goals in 16 games for the reserve team and seven since the turn of the year – appears to have caught the eye of a club across the Channel.

Southampton are interested in snapping up the youngster on a free transfer and could soon enter talks ahead of what could be an inspired move by a side who have unearthed countless rough diamonds over the last few years.

Nkada, a Lille-born striker, could well be on his way to St Mary’s sooner rather than later.

As Foot Mercato point out, Nkada would link up with another former Rennes starlet, Yann Valery, at Southampton.

The right-back has been a key player since Ralph Hasenhuttl took over and recently followed up a 25-yard wonder-goal against Manchester United with another strike in a 2-1 triumph over Tottenham.
