First-team coach and club legend Kelvin Davis could reportedly be set for a bigger role at Premier League strugglers Southampton.

Could Southampton really replace Mark Hughes with a man who has never coached a first-team game?
It is no secret that the Welshman is under huge pressure right now with Saturday’s damaging 3-2 defeat at Fulham meaning The Saints have won just three of 21 games since he took over at St Mary’s in March.
A number of experienced managers have been tipped to take over with The Mirror (25 November, page 60) reporting that Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is in the frame, along with the former Dortmund and Ajax coach Peter Bosz.

But talkSPORT are now claiming that Southampton could turn to club legend and current first-team coach Kelvin Davis to save their Premier League skin.
It is understood that chairman Ralph Krueger has told Davis to take a more active role on the sidelines in recent fixtures with the 42-year-old lined up to succeed Hughes should he be given his P45 in the near future.
42-year-old Davis spent 10 years as a goalkeeper at Southampton between 2006 and 2016, helping the South Coast club rise from League One to the top flight. He was appointed as The Saints’ first-team coach 11 months ago after the departure of Eric Black.
