Andreas Samaris will swap Benfica for the Premier League with the former Newcastle United target in Southampton and Swansea City’s sights.

The future of the Greek international midfielder was a constant discussion during 2017, with Newcastle United heavily linked with a move to bring him to St James’ Park.
The Mirror claimed that Samaris had held talks with Newcastle about potentially becoming the club’s £17.5 million record signing but, in the end, stayed at Benfica. It seems that rumours surrounding a move to the Premier League are set to return, although Newcastle are nowhere to be seen just yet.
It is understood that Southampton are keen to take the 28-year-old to St Mary’s while Swansea City made an enquiry in January with their manager, Carlos Carvalhal, obviously knowing a lot about football over in Portugal.
It remains to be seen, however, where the three-time Primeira Liga champion will end up. Southampton and Swansea both lost on Saturday and are very much still mired in relegation trouble, so survival is likely to be essential if they want to lure Samaris in the summer.
And it will be interesting to see whether a Newcastle side who appear to be closing in on securing their own Premier League status will renew their interest.
