Manolo Gabbiadini’s Premier League career looks over with the Southampton centre-forward on his way back to Italy with Serie A outfit Sampdoria.
It seems that Manolo Gabbiadini has finally played his last game for Southampton.
The Italian international has been expected to bid farewell to St Mary’s for some time now, with a number of clubs understood to be following a man who has fallen down the pecking order since Ralph Hasenhuttl replaced Mark Hughes in the dugout.
According to the Guardian, however, Gabbiadini’s former club Sampdoria have now won the race for his signature, agreeing a £10.8 million deal to bring the 27-year-old back to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
Gabbiadini is expected to fly to Italy on Thursday before undergoing a medical. And this means that the Saints will make a £4 million loss on a player they signed from Napoli this time two years ago.
The skilful centre-forward made an outstanding start to his Southampton career, scoring six goals in his first four games including a brace in the EFL Cup final defeat to Manchester United at Wembley.
However, Gabbiadini has only scored six more times in his next 56 matches and has now paid the price for a horrible run in front of goal.
