Aston Villa right-back Alan Hutton could be a Sheffield Wednesday player before Saturday’s pre-season clash with former club Rangers.
It has been a quiet summer so far for Sheffield Wednesday with George Boyd the sole arrival, joining on a free after a contract dispute with Premier League Burnley. However, that could be about to change with The Sun (page 59, 23rd July) claiming that Wednesday could secure not one but two additions.
The report claims that the Owls are hoping to land Charlie Mulgrew from relegated Blackburn Rovers in a bargain fee of just £1 million. And they could follow that up by landing Alan Hutton, the Scotland international right-back who has been linked with a move to Hillsborough for a number of weeks.

And it appeared that Wednesday’s hopes of landing the 32-year-old were over when he took to Instagram to confirm that he wanted to remain at Villa Park, via the Birmingham Mail.
However, the arrival of Ahmed Elmohamady from Hull appears to have pushed Hutton out. The Sun are now claiming that Carlos Carvalhal’s side, who have come up short in the play-offs in each of the last two seasons, are closing in on a deal to sign the veteran right-back.
A deal could even be completed before Saturday’s pre-season clash with Rangers.
Though far from the most naturally gifted player, he could be an astute alternative as a back-up for Jack Hunt on the right of Wednesday’s back four.
