Championship side Sheffield United were rebuffed in their attempts to bring Ricky Holmes to Brammal Lane by League One Charlton Athletic in the summer.

It seemed that Sheffield United spent the whole summer attempting to lure Ryan Leonard and Ricky Holmes to Brammal Lane, only for the in-demand duo to remain with Southend and Charlton Athletic respectively.
Flash forward to January, however, and the Blades have had more luck already. After making at least three bids for Leonard, the versatile midfielder finally put pen to paper with Chris Wilder’s side, signing a three-and-a-half year deal.
And London News Online states that United are now attempting to finally seal a deal to bring Holmes to South Yorkshire.

Despite adding James Wilson and Lee Evans from Manchester United and Wolves respectively, the report claims that Sheffield United are pushing hard to tempt Charlton into selling last season’s Player of the Year.
Sheffield United made a number of bids during the summer, although Holmes appeared to put an end to speculation when he signed a new three-year deal with Charlton. But London News Online claim that Holmes has now made it clear that he wants to leave the club.

Sheffield United would offer a far greater financial package, while reuniting the classy winger with his former Northampton Town boss Wilder.
The 30-year-old, who has never played above League One level, has six goals for Charlton this season.
