Charlton Athletic have made keeping Ricky Holmes their top priority this summer but Sheffield United will have something to say about that.
It appears that Sheffield United will not take no for an answer in their pursuit of Charlton Athletic wildcard Ricky Holmes.
The South London Press reported recently that The Addicks had flatly refused any approach for their talismanic winger, telling the Blades that he is not for sale at any price while planning to extend Holmes’ contract with just 12 months to run on his current deal.
However, Kent Live adds that the League One champions will raise their bid as manager Chris Wilder attempts to mould a squad capable of thriving in their first season back in the Championship after six years away.
At Holm in The Valley?
On last season’s evidence, Holmes is certainly capable of playing at a higher level. The dead-ball specialist netted 13 goals for mid-table Charlton, scoring in three successive games as Karl Robinson ended a disappointing campaign with nine points from nine.
Therefore, the former Portsmouth attacker purports to add further cutting edge to a midfield that was hardly prolific in 2016/17 despite United smashing the 100 point barrier in the third tier.
Furthermore, Wilder knows Holmes well, the 29-year-old netting nine times to help Northampton Town cruise to the League Two title the season prior to making the move to The Valley.
And a reunion at Bramall Lane could be on the cards, provided United make Charlton an offer they simply cannot refuse.
