Sheffield United will have to pay £7 million if they are interested in signing Manchester United loanee Dean Henderson on a permanent basis during the summer transfer window, according to the Sun (2 May, page 56).

The 22-year-old goalkeeper narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship during a spell at Shrewsbury Town in 2017/18 but he went one step further at Bramall Lane, helping Sheffield United secure their place back in the Premier League after 12 years away.

Henderson has been arguably the best shot-stopper anywhere in the Football League during the current campaign, keeping 20 clean sheets in 44 games for Chris Wilder’s side.

And the England U21 international has made it clear that he wants to stay in the Steel City for at least one more season rather than return and fight for his place at Old Trafford.

“I want to stay with Sheffield United and, hopefully, they don’t want me to leave. Fingers crossed that we can get something sorted out,” Henderson said.

And, according to the Sun, Sheffield United will have to cough up £7 million if they want to complete a permanent deal for arguably England’s most promising young glovesman.

Such a fee would require the club to shatter their transfer record. Their most expensive player is currently John Egan, the centre-back signed from Brentford last summer for £4.1 million (Yorkshire Post).
