Sheffield United want a new striker at Bramall Lane and have reportedly made a move to sign Martyn Waghorn from Ipswich Town.
Sheffield United have plenty of money to play with after selling young Welshman David Brooks to Bournemouth earlier this summer for £11 million.
And it seems that Chris Wilder is putting it to good use.
The Yorkshire Post claimed on Wednesday that The Blades are very close to sealing the signing of Brentford centre-back John Egan. And it seems that the Steel City side are looking to strengthen at the other end of the pitch too.
The Mail (live blog, 9.54am) reports that Sheffield United have made a bid of £5 million to sign Martyn Waghorn from Ipswich Town. It the deal comes off, Waghorn will become the club’s new record signing, overtaking James Beattie.
Waghorn was a revelation at Ipswich in 2017/18. He scored 16 goals and set up another 11 in the Championship after moving to Portman Road from Scottish Premiership powerhouses Rangers.
The Mail, understandably, adds that The Tractor Boys would like to keep hold of Waghorn but, with money tight in East Anglia, it will be interesting to see whether they would be willing to sell for £5 million.
