Well, it turns out that a short-lived spell at West Ham United probably wasn’t enough to save Samir Nasri’s career at the top level of European football.

After spending almost a year out of the game for breaching doping regulations, the former Manchester City and Arsenal playmaker was handed a shock Premier League return towards the end of 2018.

But while West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini eked the very best out of this dazzling yet enigmatic play-maker during City’s 2013/14 title winning campaign, the Chilean struggled to get a tune out of Nasri at the London Stadium.

There were the odd moments of class; that evergreen performance against Arsenal and that game-changing cameo against Huddersfield.

But injuries restricted Nasri to just three Premier League starts and, with the Frenchman demanding £70,000 to stay on according to Football London, it was no surprise that West Ham decided against extending his contract.

So where will one of this generation’s most frustrating footballers end up next?

Well, according to The West Australian, Nasri is heading Down Under. A-League newcomers Western United want a marquee signing and they have chosen a 31-year-old who, for what it’s worth, is expected to snub other offers in favour of a move to Victoria.

In all honesty, who can really blame him?
