Blackburn Rovers reportedly made an ambitious deadline day bid to buy striker Ben Brereton from Championship competitors Nottingham Forest.

Nottingham Forest signed proven Championship striker Lewis Grabban this summer while Daryl Murphy scored his first goal since November on the opening day of the 2018/19 campaign.
As a result, there has been suggestions that the talented Ben Brereton could find first-team opportunities difficult to come by under Aitor Karanka over the next few months. The latest exciting prospect to emerge from Forest’s prosperous academy hasn’t featured in either of their two Championship fixtures so far.
But that did not mean that Forest were willing to cash in on transfer deadline day. Far from it.
According to Sky Sports (live blog, 4.19pm) Blackburn Rovers made a last-gasp £5 million bid for 19-year-old Brereton and were awaiting a response from their East Midlands counterparts.

But the Nottingham Post claim that Forest dismissed the bid out of hand with Brereton still very much highly-rated at the City Ground.
And the challenge now for the speedy striker is to push on after a rather underwhelming time last season.
The teenager, who was once released by Stoke City, scored just six goals in 33 Championship appearances in 2017/18 and has been criticised by some sections of the Nottingham Forest support who seem to believe that the hype is nothing more than hot air.
