Nottingham Forest want Abel Hernandez from Championship rivals Hull City – but Wolverhampton Wanderers can offer Premier League football.

The race is well and truly on to sign Abel Hernandez this summer.

The Hull City striker is out of contract and has no shortage of admirers, and one of the clubs who have been linked of late is Nottingham Forest via Greek publication Sportdog.

Forest have struggled for goals all season, their top scorer being the Everton loanee Kieran Dowell with just nine Championship strikes to his name. That is just one more than Hernandez has managed in 10 starts during an injury-hit campaign.

The Nottingham Post, however, points out that Hernandez is far more likely to be wearing another shirt next summer than the red of Forest.

It is understood that Forest’s rival suitors, including Midland giants Wolves and Aston Villa, would be able to offer the Uruguayan international a greater financial package – not to mention Premier League football.

Wolves have already secured their place in the top flight by cruising to the Championship title while Aston Villa are a goal up against Middlesbrough in the play-off semi-finals at the halfway stage.

Tuttomercatoweb have reported that Wolves, backed by billionaire Chinese owners, have offered Hernandez a contract worth £2.5 million a year. In financial terms, Wolves could blow Forest out of the water and that is without mentioning the fact they would be able to put top flight football on the table.

But Forest could certainly do worse than to break the bank to sign Hernandez this summer.
