Championship play-off hopefuls Aston Villa reportedly want to sign Joe Bryan from Bristol City.

Bristol-born Joe Bryan might have spent his entire professional career at Ashton Gate, but now is the time to let your head rule your heart.

After a disappointing second half of the season, Bristol City have missed out on the Championship play-offs, but Bryan’s excellent form in 2017/18 means he should be offered the chance to play Premier League football this season, so long as he leaves his boyhood club.

As reported by the Mirror (live transfer blog, 9.14pm), Burnley are the latest top flight side to have been credited with an interest in the attack-minded left-back, with a £6 million bid in the works.

And, back in March, Aston Villa were linked, too. The Sun stated that Villa are big fans of the 24-year-old Bryan and would make a move for him this summer, so long as they earned promotion to the Premier League.

Should Steve Bruce navigate the play-offs and be promoted for the fifth time in his managerial career, he should prioritise a move for arguably the best left-back in the Championship this season.

Because the Mirror states that Bristol City are resigned to losing Bryan this summer, with a number of clubs offering him the chance to take a big step forward in a promising career.

Left-back is a position Villa could do with strengthening as Neil Taylor has not exactly enjoyed a stellar campaign, and Bryan would be a solid addition ahead of the club’s prospective return to the top flight.
