Premier League chasers Derby County reportedly want Colchester United ace Szmodics but he is allegedly heading to the Championship with Bristol City.

Derby County are set to lose out on Colchester forward Sammie Szmodics, with the Mirror (19 May, page 55) reporting that he is on his way to Bristol City instead.
The Rams are potentially just 90 minutes away from returning to the Premier League after an 11-year absence, with Frank Lampard’s side taking on Aston Villa in the Championship play-off final at Wembley next week.
But it seems that even the prospect of top flight football will not be enough to lure Szmodics to Pride Park.
According to The Mirror, Derby are keen on the 23-year-old play-maker, who has shone for his local club Colchester after rising through the club’s academy.

Szmodics scored 15 goals and produced nine assists for the League Two outfit in 2018/19 with his purposeful, dynamic style and intelligent left-foot drawing comparisons with former England international Jack Wilshere (the Mail).
But the Mirror reports that Szmodics favours a move to Bristol City over Derby. And a switch to Ashton Gate is certainly not a bad one given that the likes of Joe Bryan and Bobby Reid ended up in the Premier League after honing their trade under Lee Johnson.
