Report: Allardyce tells Everton to send Cenk Tosun back to Besiktas

Cenk Tosun has not been the prolific number nine Premier League giants Everton had been hoping for when he arrived at Goodison Park from Besiktas.

If Everton fans were hoping that Cenk Tosun could be the goal-scorer they have needed since Romelu Lukaku’s summer departure, they will have been sadly disappointed.

After months of speculation, Everton splashed out £27 million on a striker who had inspired Besiktas to successive Turkish Super Lig titles and netted four times in five games in this season’s Champions League group stage.

But so far Tosun has played just four Premier League games for the Toffees, with manager Sam Allardyce seemingly reluctant to put his faith in a striker many observers have wasted no time in writing off.

The Mail even claimed that majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri has been left deeply frustrated by the huge sum spent on Tosun, and the seemingly doomed deal could act as a trigger for the steel magnate to instil huge behind-the-scenes changes at Goodison Park.

And the latest reports coming out of Turkey via Fotomac (28 February, front page) state that Allardyce has been so underwhelmed by Tosun that he has told Everton to loan the striker to Besiktas in the summer.

Whether Allardyce believes this will help Tosun rediscover that golden touch, or whether he just wants the misfit off the books, is up for debate.

What cannot be argued with, however, is that Tosun needs to make an impression and fast before the cynics start getting louder and the word ‘flop’ becomes forever attached to the Everton man.
