Nottingham Forest have not handed Ryan Yates a single Championship appearance all season despite Aitor Karanka’s praise.

Ryan Yates really stood out for Nottingham Forest in pre-season, so much so that manager Aitor Karanka admitted that the talented young midfielder could have forced his way into his first-team plans, as reported by the Post.
But, 17 games into the current Championship season, it seems the summer months were little more than a false dawn for Yates.
The 20-year-old has not been included in a single match-day squad throughout the campaign, with his only outing for the Forest first-team coming in the EFL Cup penalty shoot-out victory against Bury back in mid-August.
He certainly has not been helped by the head-scratching additions of Panagiotis Tachtsidis (below) and Claudio Yacob, who arrived on free transfers in September.

These days, Yates has been forced to be content with playing for the club’s U23s. And, according to the Nottingham Post, the Lincoln-born youngster is now building up his fitness ahead of yet another loan move away from the City Ground in January.
Since the start of 2016/17, Yates has had spells at Barrow, Shrewsbury, Notts County and Scunthorpe United. He spent the second half of last season at Glanford Park and made a major impression, so you can bet that Scunthorpe would love to bring him back.
