Ryan Yates looks set for a spell at League One leaders Pompey after failing to make a Championship appearance for Nottingham Forest this season.

It seems that Ryan Yates has grown tired with life in the background at Nottingham Forest.
The talented midfielder would have been hoping to force his way into Forest’s first-team plans this season after an impressive loan spell at Scunthorpe United in the second half of the 2017/18 campaign but, despite an eye-catching pre-season, he remains well down the pecking order.
Yates has not been included in the match day squad for any of Nottingham Forest’s 21 Championship games and, as a result, seems certain to leave in the January transfer window.
And according to The Mirror (20 December, page 58), League One leaders Portsmouth appear to have won the race for his signature despite links with Championship duo Hull City and Rotherham United.

It is understood that Pompey are set to seal a short-term loan deal for the energetic Yates, who wants to quit the City Ground to get some much-needed first-team football under his belt.
If Yates performs in Portsmouth colours like he did at Scunthorpe, there is no reason to believe that Kenny Jackett will not lead the 2008 FA Cup winners back into the Championship in time for next season.
The Mirror has claimed that Pompey would like to sign Yates on a permament basis if given the chance with Forest valuing him at a bargain £500,000.
