Report: Roma prepared to triple Cengiz Under's wages to ward off Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly want to bring Roma’s Serie A star Cengiz Under to the Premier League.

Roma are preparing to offer Cengiz Under a new contract to ward off interest from clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, according to Calciomercato.

The Turkish starlet has been a big hit at the Stadio Olimpico since he arrived in 2017 from Istanbul Basaksehir, helping Eusebio Di Francesco’s side reach the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.

And Under has been a bright spark in a difficult 2018/19 campaign for Roma, scoring six goals and setting up nine more in all competitions. As a result, he has attracted interest from clubs across Europe with CalcioNews24 claiming in November that Tottenham were interested.

Although, in an attempt to block Under from leaving for North London, Calciomercato have reported on Friday that Roma have prepared a new deal to keep the 21-year-old in the Italian capital for the long-term.

It is understood that the Giallarossi are even prepared to triple Under’s weekly wage. With Tottenham famed for their structured pay system, it remains to be seen whether they would be willing to match Roma’s offer.

CalcioNews24 reported that any new contract for Under would likely contain a release clause of £45 million, however – a fee that might not be out of the reach of Premier League clubs.
