Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly made a shock move to bring Ricardo Quaresma back to the Premier League.
Wolverhampton Wanderers were interested in signing veteran winger Ricardo Quaresma this summer, according to Fanatik, although he has rejected a move to Molineux in order to stay at Besiktas.
Wolves already have a number of Portuguese internationals on their books, including Rui Patricio, Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho. But Quaresma would have been arguably the most experienced, and high profile, of the lot.
A 35-year-old forward with 80 caps to his name, Quaresma has represented Barcelona, Porto, Chelsea and Inter Milan in a nomadic career while playing a major role as his nation won the 2016 European Championships on French soil.
This most enigmatic of talents, with his face tattoos and penchant for a rabona, might never have lived up to his massive potential but he’s still enjoyed a fine, trophy laden career at the top level of the game.
But it seems that Quaresma is content enough in Turkey to turn down a second chance in the Premier League, a decade after that ill-fated loan spell at Chelsea. Fanatik claims that he wants to stay and see out the remainder of his contract with Besiktas.
And that is a real shame. For the neutrals at least, a real crowd-pleaser like Quaresma (others might call him a ‘show off’) would been a really thrilling addition to the Premier League. And with 14 assists in all competitions last season, he’s clearly still got it.
