After a year of links, could the La Liga goalkeeper Rulli finally be on his way to the Premier League with Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United?

Rafa Benitez appears to be a big fan of the Argentine goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.

Because, for well over a year now, the Newcastle United manager has been tipped to bring the highly-rated Real Sociedad shot-stopper to St James’ Park. In fact, it was The Sun who reported back in October 2017 that The Magpies had been keeping a close eye on the £15 million-rated Rulli.

And while Sociedad might not have been keen to play ball back then, times have changed at La Real.

Rulli has slipped to second choice behind the experienced Miguel Angel Moya with his most recent La Liga appearance coming back in September. And according to El Gol Digital, the Basque side are ready to sell Rulli in the New Year.

TEAMtalk believe that he will be allowed to go for a cut price fee of just £6.6 million.

It is understood that Sociedad are hoping that Newcastle will come in for the 26-year-old as they aim to replace the South American with Real Madrid’s third choice stopper Kiko Casilla.

Whether Newcastle will bite remains to be seen. The Magpies have seen their number one Martin Dubravka (below) linked to Juventus this week by Calciomercato but Benitez still has Karl Darlow, Rob Elliot and Freddie Woodman in reserve.
