Daniel Candeias is set to leave Rangers imminently with Yurtspor claiming that the winger is due to travel to Turkey on Friday to hold talks with Genclerbirligi.
A player who made 52 appearances during Steven Gerrard’s debut campaign at Ibrox no longer appears to be part of the manager’s plans.
With Sheyi Ojo, Jake Hastie and Jordan Jones all strengthening Rangers’ options in wide areas, and with Ryan Kent’s return still on the cards, Candeias has tumbled well down the pecking order in recent weeks.
The fact that he was not part of the squad for last week’s Europa League qualifier away at St Joseph’s seemingly confirmed that the experienced Portuguese would be playing a reduced role in Glasgow.
And it always seemed unlikely that a player who has turned out for 13 different clubs already in his career was going to stick around and be happy with a place on the bench – or out of the team altogether.
Reports in Turkey claim that Candeias will hop on a flight to Turkey tomorrow, where he will discuss personal terms with Genclerbirligi, an Ankara-based outfit who were promoted to the first division last season.
Candeias, who has one year left on his contract, joined Rangers from Benfica two years ago for £700,000 (BBC).
