Eduardo Herrera has been nothing more than an expensive flop since arriving at Ibrox and Scottish Premiership giants Rangers could cut their losses.

Eduardo Herrera of Rangers celebrates after he scores his teams third goal during the Betfred League Cup Quarter Final at Firhill Stadium on September 19, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

It has been a busy transfer window at Ibrox, but there could still be a few more moves before the end of the month.

With six deals done, Rangers may now look to get a couple of their fringe players out of the door and it appears Eduardo Herrera is at risk of the cull.

The Mexican international has been almost completely anonymous since arriving from Pumas UNAM in the summer, following up his £1.5 million price tag with a dreadful tally of two goals in 22 games, as reported by the Daily Record.

With Jason Cummings (below) arriving on loan from Nottingham Forest, Herrera has now fallen to third in the pecking order behind Alfredo Morelos, too, and possibly to fourth when Kenny Miller returns from injury.

Jason Cummings poses for photographs after a training session at Orium sporting centre of excellence on November 6, 2017 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

And the Daily Record is now reporting that the 29-year-old could even leave the club before Wednesday’s transfer deadline as Rangers are hoping to get him off the wage bill.

It is understood that Herrera is one of the highest earners in Graeme Murty’s squad and could therefore follow Mexican international teammate Carlos Pena in seeing his spell in Scotland cut short.

Although while Pena did not wait around to return home via a loan spell with Cruz Azul, now managed by former Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha, Herrera appears willing to fight his corner.

Eduardo Herrera of Veracruz gestures during a Mexican Clausura football tournament match against Pachuca at Hidalgo stadium in Pachuca, Mexico, on February 25, 2017.

“Any player is excited to be called to the national team, but first comes first and I must win a place at Rangers. I have the opportunity to be there (Ibrox) and it is an incomparable feeling,” Herrera told the Daily Record earlier in January.

“One of the dreams is to play in Europe and I’m living it, but for now I do not think about that (a return to Liga MX). I signed for three years with Rangers and I’m still two and a half years to go.”
