Two clubs reportedly want Aston Villa’s Championship outcast Elphick – QPR and Steven Gerrard’s Scottish Premiership giants Glasgow Rangers

After the summer departures of John Terry and Chris Samba, it seemed that the door was open for Tommy Elphick to re-ignite his Aston Villa career.
Then again, maybe not. Elphick has featured in just one of Villa’s five Championship games so far in 2018/19. And, just to rub salt into the wounds, midfielder Mile Jedinak has been starting in Elphick’s natural centre-back position alongside James Chester.
And with Aston Villa making an offer to sign the highly-rated Le Havre defender Harold Makoudi on an initial loan deal, the former Bournemouth skipper appears once more to be on borrowed time at Villa Park.
Though there is interest.
According to The Mail, Scottish Premiership giants Rangers have been looking at the 30-year-old powerhouse. It is well documented that Steven Gerrard wants one more centre-back at Ibrox and the experienced Elphick fits the bill.

Though with Rangers seemingly pressing ahead with a move for Nottingham Forest’s Joe Worrall, QPR could be the more likely destination for Elphick.
QPR wanted the defender in the January 2017 transfer window and it is understood that they are renewing their interest as Steve McClaren looks to add to the impressive signings of Tomer Hemed and Nahki Wells.
It remains to be seen whether Elphick, who moved to Villa for £3.6 million in 2016 (Mail), ends up at the Scottish Rangers or the English one.
