The Watford right-back did not even make their 25-man squad but he could be a star at Ibrox.

Rangers are interested in Watford defender Juan Carlos Paredes, the Daily Record reports, in a move that would add further experience to Mark Warburton’s squad.

The Ecuadorian international played a major part in the Hornets’ promotion to the Premier League in 2014/15, but he has slipped down the pecking order under first Quique Sanches Flores and now Walter Mazzarri, with his skills as an orthodox right-back rather futile in the Italian’s favoured 3-5-2 system.

Consequently, Watford are willing to listen to offers for the 29-year-old who, the Daily Record add, would be available for around £2 million – potentially making him Rangers most expensive signing since Nikica Jelavic arrived for £4 million from Rapid Vienna in 2010, according to the BBC.

Therefore, Paredes would at least sate the supporters’ demand for more investment in the club’s playing staff, with his 68 international caps demonstrating his experience and longevity.

Furthermore, at the age of 29, he would mark a welcome change from Rangers’ usual prioritising of out-of-contract veterans and unproven youngsters.

Nonetheless, the Scottish giants still have a fight on their hand to secure his services with Turkish club Trabzonspor, whose vast wage offers have helped attract the likes of Florent Malouda and Jose Bosingwa in the past, also reported to be interested, the Daily Record add.
