Eamonn Brophy was released by Celtic but could he return to Glasgow to sign for Scottish Premiership rivals Rangers.
Rangers are set to make a late bid for Kilmarnock forward Eamonn Brophy before the transfer window shuts, as reported by TEAMtalk.
Just last week, manager Steven Gerrard said he could dip into the transfer market again to sign one more striker with Alfredo Morelos, Jermain Defoe and Greg Stewart his only senior options in the number nine role.
And, if reports are to be believed, Brophy is the man Gerrard has identified to give Rangers a shot of quality in reserve as they look to compete on domestic and European fronts this season.
The 23-year-old scored 12 times in an impressive breakthrough campaign for Kilmarnock last season and was rewarded with a first cap for the Scotland national team during June’s 2-1 win against Cyprus.
A skilful and versatile attacker with an eye for the spectacular, Brophy started his career at Celtic as a youngster before making his name elsewhere, initially at Hamilton and then at Rugby Park.
It remains to be seen how a player with green and white in his veins feels about returning to Glasgow on the other side of the Old Firm divide.
“Players develop at different rates and it just took a bit longer for it to happen to me. When I left, I thought I was technically as good as anyone at Celtic. But I wasn’t the biggest and that’s why they let me go,” Brophy told The Mail last year (16 September, page 48).
“It was hard to accept. I was a Celtic fan and wanted to play for them.”
