Serie A giants Roma have a man in demand in striker Umar Sadiq and clubs from the Eredivisie and Jupiler League are reportedly rivalling Rangers.

Rangers’ alleged move for the Roma striker Umar Sadiq will not be easy.

According to the Scottish Sun, Steven Gerrard is hopeful of making the 21-year-old his first striker signing in charge of the Ibrox giants. But Eredivisie club NAC Breda, for whom Sadiq scored five times in 13 games during a loan spell last season, have the option to sign him for another term this summer.

And NAC are not alone in rivalling Rangers for the 6ft 3ins target man, who has scored twice in just six Serie A appearances for Roma and has had loan spells at Bologna and Torino.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Eredivisie duo Vitesse Arnhem and Groningen are both interested in Sadiq, who obviously caught their eye during his five-month stay in Breda.

Two sides from the Belgian top flight, Genk and Oostende, are also big fans of the rangy front man who joined Roma from Spezia for £2 million back in 2016.

Fortunately for Rangers, however, they have an advantage over their Dutch and Belgian rivals – thanks to Gerrard.

“Maybe in the future I will get to work with Gerrard,” Sadiq told OwnGoalNigeria when asked about a potential move to Ibrox, which is likely to be in a temporary rather than permanent capacity.

Part of the reason why Rangers gave Gerrard his first taste of management was because of the pulling power he would give them in the transfer market. Signing Sadiq would be another reflection of this.
