If Steven Gerrard was worried about whether he would have money to spend at Rangers this summer, it seems the Scottish giants are doing everything they can to prove their ambition to their new manager.

The Sun claimed on Sunday that Rangers have made a £4 million bid to sign Swansea City’s Scottish international striker Oli McBurnie, who shot to fame with nine goals on loan at Barnsley in the second half of 2017/18.

And, according to Turkish publication Sabah, Rangers have launched another £4 million bid for a man at the opposite end of his career.

The Daily Record reported that, when Gerrard was appointed, he had hoped to reunite with his former Liverpool teammate Martin Skrtel at Ibrox.

The 33-year-old centre-back has been playing for Fenerbahce since leaving Liverpool in January 2016 and has thrived in Turkey despite his advancing years. He still has plenty to offer, with his leadership and warrior spirit likely to make him an excellent addition to a Rangers defence that has not been anywhere near good enough since they returned to the top flight two years ago.

It is understood that Skrtel has talked to Fenerbahce about his future but no decision has been reached yet.

Defensive reinforcements are essential for Rangers this summer. David Bates has already signed a pre-contract agreement with Hamburg, Danny Wilson left for America in January and doubts remain over the futures of Fabio Cardoso and Bruno Alves.
