Highly-rated Rangers talent Robby McCrorie will have to wait for his breakthrough at Ibrox, with the Scottish Premiership giants loaning him out.

You have to feel for Robby McCrorie.
He was fantastic on loan at Berwick last season, winning five awards at the club’s end of the season gongs. But parent club Rangers then went out and re-signed Alan McGregor (below) on a free from Hull City, meaning McCrorie is behind him, Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick in the pecking order as things stand.

So it makes sense for the 20-year-old goalkeeper to spend another year honing his trade away from Ibrox. And the Scottish Sun reports that McCrorie is edging closer to a season-long loan at Ayr United, who won the League One title in 2017/18 and will spend the next campaign in the Championship.
It is understood that a number of other clubs have enquired about McCrorie, who is yet to make his senior bow for Rangers. But Ayr are leading the chase and, after Jack Ruddy returned to Wolves at the end of last season, McCrorie would have a good chance of first-team football in Ayrshire.
Robby’s twin brother Ross has already established himself in Rangers’ starting XI, playing 25 games in all competitions either at centre-half or at the base of midfield.

But Robby, who earned rave reviews for his performance in Scotland’s 1-0 Toulon Tournament win against hosts France on Wednesday, will surely catch Steven Gerrard’s eye with some more quality displays out on loan.
