Scottish Premiership giants Rangers want to sign Connor Goldson from Premier League Brighton and Hove Albion – but they’re not alone.

Connor Goldson to Rangers isn’t a done deal yet.

According to the Daily Record, Rangers have made two bids so far for the Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back and are set to return with a third offer. It is understood that Goldson is valued at around £3 million and talks are ongoing between the two clubs.

But, as reported by The Express (30th May, page 53), it is not just Rangers who are interested in signing the 25-year-old former Shrewsbury Town man.

A host of English Championship sides are understood to have made enquiries about Goldson and want to be kept in the loop about his availability this summer.

And a number of clubs in the second tier of English football certainly have the funds to outbid Rangers for a defender who would become their most expensive since Dutch international Bert Konterman arrived from Feyenoord in the summer of 2000.

Fortunately, however, Rangers might still have a slight advantage.

The Scottish Sun points out that Goldson is a massive Liverpool fan so the prospect of working under Anfield legend Steven Gerrard obviously appeals to a man who grew up watching the one-time Reds skipper at his peak.

But, after missing out on Martin Skrtel and with Leeds United the favourites to land Kyle Bartley, Rangers will be very worried that Goldson will slip through their grasp.
