Championship giants Aston Villa could lose Alan Hutton, with a return to the Scottish Premiership with Rangers reportedly a possibility.

Ten years after becoming the biggest export in Rangers’ history, could Alan Hutton make an emotional return to Ibrox?

The 33-year-old defender is out of contract this summer and, according to the Mirror, an Aston Villa side in the midst of a financial crisis have put negotiations over a new deal on hold with his hefty wages likely to be beyond the club’s means.

And, as reported by the Birmingham Mail, it is understood that returning to Rangers is an option for Hutton this summer with teams starting to show interest.

Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis is allegedly a big fan of the 50-capped Scotland international and is keen to bring him, along with his 15-goal teammate Albert Adomah, to the Riverside this summer.

But the pull of Rangers could prove very strong indeed for a player who was born in Glasgow and joined the club way back in 2000. Hutton made 122 appearances for the Scottish giants before that £9 million move to Tottenham Hotspur in 2008.

Hutton left Spurs for Villa seven years ago and was a regular for the Midland giants last season as they finished fourth in the Championship, losing to Fulham in the play-off final at Wembley.

Rangers have already landed Allan McGregor, Ovie Ejaria and Scott Arfield without spending a penny this summer and Hutton would be another astute and affordable addition.
