Rangers could be facing a battle with Mark Warburton this summer as a number of clubs express an interest in Charlton Athletic’s play-off hero Patrick Bauer, according to the Mail.
The 26-year-old German has spent the last four years at the Valley, joining from Portuguese outfit Maritimo in 2015, and etched his name into modern-day Addicks folklore with a 94th-minute Wembley winner against Sunderland in the League One play-off final.
But with his contract up clubs on both sides of the border interested, it remains to be seen whether Bauer will stick around to play Championship football under Lee Bowyer.
The Mail claims that Rangers want to bring Bauer to Ibrox, perhaps as a replacement for the departed loanee Joe Worrall, while former Gers boss Mark Warburton is hoping to sign the former Germany U20 international for his new employers, Queens Park Rangers.
Hull City, Preston North End, Wigan Athletic, Blackburn Rovers, Reading and Hibernian all complete a lengthy list of clubs who believe Bauer would be a fine addition on a free transfer.
Charlton have offered Bauer a new deal, manager Bowyer told the club’s website last week, but it remains to be seen whether he accepts.
