Sekou Gassama has scored five times already for La Liga-chasing UD Almeria with Championship Queens Park Rangers interested.

Spain - La Liga 123 _ 2018-2019

Queens Park Rangers are already planning a January swoop for Almeria striker Sekou Gassama, according to the Sun (22 September, page 61).

Eight games into the new Championship season, things could hardly be going any better for QPR right now. Mark Warburton has led the West London outfit to fifth in the table with five wins so far.

So if Gassama does arrive at Loftus Road in the New Year, forcing his way into Warburton’s starting XI might be easier said than done. Particularly with Nahki Wells, who scored both goals in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Millwall, in the form of his life.

Gassama hasn’t had a bad start to the season himself, however, finding the net five times in seven games for Spanish second-tier outfit Almeria.

The Spain-born 24-year-old has fired Almeria, who have recently been taken over by Saudi Arabian Turki Al-Sheikh and spent £8 million on Nottingham Forest youngster Arvin Appiah, to the top of the Segunda table.

So luring Gassama away from Almeria could be easier said than done, although the former Senegal U20 star is out of contract at the end of the season and could therefore be available for a cut-price fee in January.

What’s more, the Sun suggests that Gassama could choose QPR over a potential switch to Real Zaragoza.
