Swansea City have reportedly made a minimal bid for PSV Eindhoven right-back Santiago Arias.
Kyle Naughton provided a timely reminder of his qualities as Swansea City earned a deserved 2-0 win at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, capping a fine individual display with an assist for Jordan Ayew’s game-clinching goal at Selhurst Park.
However, the position of the former Tottenham Hotspur right-back could come under question sooner rather than later with Swansea eyeing a deal that would give manager Paul Clement more options in defence.
The Mail reported last week that the South Welsh club had made a £2 million bid for PSV Eindhoven flyer Santiago Arias, who claimed that he was looking to leave the Eredivisie before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
Eindhoven Dagblad confirm that Swansea will have to pay far more to land the Colombian international, who has also been linked with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
PSV value Arias, who has won two Eredivisie titles since joining from Sporting Lisbon three years ago, at a hefty £12 million.
Yet, the report adds that PSV are willing to discuss a transfer for the 25-year-old and may even agree to start the bidding below their preferred asking price.
Furthermore, Phillip Cocu’s side are also on the lookout for right-backs capable of replacing Arias in the starting XI, suggesting that they have accepted the fact that the 2014 World Cup star will be heading out of the club this summer.
PSV are used to losing their key players to the Premier League with Memphis Depay and Giorginio Wijnaldum breaking up the thrilling title winning team of 2014/15 by joining Manchester United and Newcastle two years ago.
Classy playmaker Davy Propper left for Brighton this summer while Arias looks set to join jet-heeled winger Luciano Narsingh, who moved to Swansea in January, at the Liberty Stadium.
