Real Madrid and Portugal legend Pepe has been heavily tipped to join Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers thanks to Jorge Mendes.

It seemed that Pepe was set for a long-awaited move to the Premier League this month.

The Real Madrid and Portugal legend is a free agent after cash-strapped Besiktas cancelled his contract in December. And Fanatik reported last week that the 35-year-old was edging closer to a eye-catching move to Molineux with his agent, Jorge Mendes, understood to be negotiating a deal between both parties.

A potential move would have seen Pepe link up with his Portugal international teammates Rui Patricio, Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho in the Black Country.

But latest reports suggest that the three-time Champions League winner is set to join another club which has Mendes’ fingerprints all over it – the Ligue 1 strugglers AS Monaco.

According to the Mail, Pepe is set to join Thierry Henry’s relegation-threatened side with an agreement understood to be close. The report adds that Wolves had discussed signing the veteran defender while former club Porto were keen, too.

Now, Pepe is expected to be joined at Monaco by Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas while the 2017 Ligue 1 champions signed another experienced old-timer, the Schalke centre-back Naldo, earlier in January.

A youthful Monaco side are second from bottom in the French top flight, having won just three out of 18 games, so the additions of Pepe and co will be very well received.
