League One Sunderland reportedly wanted to land James Wilson on loan from Manchester United but he has joined Aberdeen.
James Wilson to Sunderland will not be happening this month.
The Sunderland Echo reported last week that the Black Cats were hoping to use their connections with Manchester United once again to land striker James Wilson on loan.
Manager Jack Ross is hardly flush with striking options and remains reliant on talented yet unproven prospects Josh Maja and Jerome Sinclair, meaning the addition of Wilson would provide some much needed depth.
The former St Mirren boss told the Chronicle over the weekend that nothing is imminent, however. And it seems that Sunderland have now missed out on what could have been a promising addition to their squad.
According to the Mail on Monday morning, Aberdeen were closing in on the signing of Wilson with Derek McInnes hopeful that a deal could be agreed within the next 24 hours.
The manager wanted to add some pace and energy to Aberdeen’s attack with Stevie May struggling for goals and believes the 22-year-old is the man to provide exactly that. And a deal to move Wilson to Pittodrie has now been announced.
So Sunderland, who have missed out on countless striker targets over the last few weeks, such as Florian Kamberi, Lyle Taylor and Gavin Reilly, have been left disappointed yet again.
Wilson might have netted just five goals in loan spells at Brighton, Derby and Sheffield United but has the potential to thrive at League One level.
