Aston Villa are reportedly set to beat Championship rivals Middlesbrough to the signing of Everton winger Yannick Bolasie. What does this mean for Marvin Johnson?

The chance to sign Yannick Bolasie appears to have passed Middlesbrough by.
According to the Birmingham Mail, the £28 million Everton winger has snubbed a move to the Riverside in order to join Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa. Just to back up the reports, Bolasie was spotted in the stands at Villa Park as the Midland giants drew 2-2 with Brentford on Wednesday night.
And according to the Northern Echo, missing out on Bolasie has had an impact on the future of current Middlesbrough winger Marvin Johnson.
A £2.5 million signing from Oxford United last summer, the 27-year-old only started six Championship games last season and hasn’t featured in any of the club’s first five league fixtures of the new campaign.
The Northern Echo reports that Sheffield United and Hull City wanted to sign Johnson on loan. But with Bolasie heading elsewhere, the former Motherwell attacker will be remaining in the North East for the time being.

Reports in the Northern Echo that in-form attacker Martin Braithwaite wants to return to France before the end of August could open up an opportunity for Johnson in the starting XI. And it will be interesting to see whether Johnson can force his way back into Tony Pulis’ plans.
