Ipswich Town were reportedly hoping to bring Josh Windass to the Championship with a £2million fee being mooted for the Rangers attacker.
Ipswich Town appear to be discovering that a deal for Rangers midfielder Josh Windass is proving more difficult than expected.
The Sun (9 August, page 55) had claimed that the Tractor Boys wanted to sign the goal-scoring midfielder in a £2 million move before Thursday’s 5:00pm transfer deadline. Windass was in excellent form for the Gers in 2017/18, scoring 18 times to finish as the club’s joint-top scorer with Alfredo Morelos.
But latest reports in the East Anglian Daily Times suggest that this saga could rumble on beyond the transfer deadline.
Windass is due to feature in Rangers’ Europa League qualifying clash with Maribor on Thursday evening, meaning Ipswich are struggling to get the deal over the line in time.
And there is a hold up because Ipswich are hoping to sell Joe Garner before going all out for Windass. Selling the former Preston frontman is proving problematic, however, with Bolton Wanderers moving onto other targets.
The EADT add that Ipswich and Rangers held further talks over Windass on Thursday morning but no real progress was made despite the 24-year-old being keen on a move to the Championship.
Therefore, it is reported that Ipswich could attempt to land Windass on loan instead with second-tier clubs able to bring in new players on a temporary basis until the end of August. It remains to be seen, however, whether Rangers would be happy to let Windass leave temporarily for nothing.
