Report provides positive update as West Ham target Leander Dendoncker again

David Moyes reportedly said no to Anderlecht star Leander Dendoncker but he could still end up in the Premier League with West Ham.

After months of speculation, Leander Dendoncker is still being linked with West Ham United.

The Anderlecht starlet was apparently on his way to the London Stadium in January but, according to Football London, the deal collapsed thanks to then manager David Moyes.

The Telegraph reported that Moyes preferred a proven Premier League talent like Jonjo Shelvey or Harry Arter, believing paying a huge sum for a player from the Jupiler League would be too much of a risk.

But with Moyes now gone, replaced by Manuel Pellegrini, there is nothing to stop West Ham pressing ahead with the move.

And RMC Sport are claiming that The Hammers are in pole position with Dendoncker set to leave Anderlecht after this summer’s World Cup, in which he will be hoping to feature for Roberto Martinez’s Belgium.

Dendoncker can also play in defence and is renowned for his ability to start attacks from deep, qualities that appear to have attracted the attention of Ligue 1 giants Lyon, RMC add.

But it is understood that West Ham remain his most likely destination with Anderlecht hoping for a fee in the ballpark of £26 million.

If The Hammers pay that sum, Dendoncker will overtake Marko Arnautovic as the club’s record signing.
