Aston Villa’s £15million record signing Jonathan Kodjia is the latest player being linked with a move away from the Championship club.

Ivory Coast's forward Jonathan Kodjia celebrates after scoring a goal during their international friendly football match against Russia in Krasnodar on March 24, 2017.

It just gets worse for Aston Villa.

The club are in the midst of a financial crisis after failing to seal their return to the Premier League, with potential Financial Fair Play sanctions meaning the Midland giants are under pressure to raise money and fast.

And latest reports in the Telegraph are claiming that Aston Villa need to raise £50 million from player sales in the next two transfer windows, meaning supporters should expect to say goodbye to some of their star men.

John Terry, Robert Snodgrass, Sam Johnstone and Lewis Grabban have already gone and, according to the Telegraph, it is almost inevitable that Jack Grealish is on his way, too, although Villa may struggle to find a club willing to pay £40 million for the 22-year-old.

The report adds that another key attacker, Jonathan Kodjia, is also ripe for the cull.

The Ivory Coast striker became Villa’s record signing when he joined from Bristol City for £15 million in 2016 but those heady days are long since gone. The Telegraph understands that Kodjia is likely to have a number of suitors from across Europe.

Kodjia scored 19 goals in his debut season at Villa but managed just one in 2017/18, thanks in part to a broken ankle he suffered in the summer. It remains to be seen whether this has a negative effect on his market value.
