Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with former Real Madrid defender Pepe.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have signed two of Portugal’s most experienced players this summer, two 30-somethings with 186 international caps between them.

But could Joao Moutinho and Rui Patricio be joined at Molineux by a bona fide legend of Portuguese football? According to Turkish publication Fanatik. Wolves are genuinely in the race to sign none other than Pepe this summer.

It is understood that Wolves have made a move to bring the 35-year-old to the Premier League for the first time in his lofty career. Pepe is currently in Turkey with Besiktas but has just one year left on his contract. This, and his age, means he is valued at a potentially bargain price of £6 million.

And Fanatik claims that the former Real Madrid defender is aware of interest from Wolves, not to mention his former club FC Porto.

Porto might have the advantage given Pepe’s connections with the Primeira Liga winners and the prospect of playing Champions League football next season. But, given that the veteran’s agent is none other than Jorge Mendes, Wolves cannot be ruled out as it stands.

Fanatik adds that Besiktas manager Senol Gunes wants to keep hold of Pepe this summer. Although considering he will be a free agent in a years, it remains to be seen whether the club will decide to let him go instead.
