Is Alexandre Mendy set to leave Ligue 1 for the Championship, with Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi eyeing a new striker?
Nottingham Forest are in talks with Bordeaux about a deal to sign striker Alexandre Mendy, according to Le10 Sport.
There may be a bit of a French twang in the City Ground dressing room this season. Former Les Blues international Sabri Lamouchi has replaced the wily old Irishman Martin O’Neill in the dugout and, according to reports from across the channel, two France-based players could also be on their way to the East Midlands.
Caen goalkeeper Brice Samba is apparently ‘on the verge’ of becoming the second new shot-stopper to arrive this summer. And Le10 Sports believes that Samba may be followed to the City Ground by Mendy.
A 25-year-old forward, Mendy joined Bordeaux in 2017 but, after scoring just four Ligue 1 goals in his debut season, spent last season on loan at former club Guingamp.
With no clear role for him in Bordeaux’s squad, Nottingham Forest have entered talks about a deal that would see Mendy become the latest new addition since Lamouchi took over at the end of June.
The Toulon-born striker is the cousin of Leicester midfielder Nampalys Mendy and ex-Swansea forward Bafetimbi Gomis. And he’ll be hoping to take the pressure of Lewis Grabban as Nottingham Forest look to bounce back from their opening day defeat to West Brom.
