Nottingham Forest’s already busy summer is about to get busier.

The Championship giants have already brought in three creative talents in Gil Dias, Diogo Goncalves and Joao Carvalho with the help of super-agent Jorge Mendes, the latter costing a club-record £13 million, but Aitor Karanka is still in need of a striker capable of turning chances into goals.

The Nottingham Post, however, reports that a deal to sign El Arabi Hillel Soudani from Dinamo Zagreb is edging closer.

It is understood that the 30-year-old Algerian, who has been a target for Forest since January, has held positive talks with the East Midland giants over the last week, with Zagreb resigned to losing their star man.

Nottingham Forest are willing to pay around £2.6 million for a striker who netted 17 goals in 28 league games last season, 18 overall. Soudani won the Golden Boot and Player of the Year award as Dinamo Zagreb won the Croatian league title.

And since arriving from Vitoria Guimaraes in 2013, he has scored 86 goals in 197 games.

The report adds that Italian side Cagliari have joined the race for Soudani at the eleventh hour but it seems more likely than ever that he will be wearing a Nottingham Forest shirt next season
