Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka reportedly wants to raid Championship rivals Middlesbrough to reunite with Fabio da Silva at the City Ground.
Nottingham Forest appeared to solve their left-back shortage with the signing of Jack Robinson on a free from Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers.
But, as the 24-year-old former Liverpool man pointed out at his unveiling, he made the vast majority of his 29 Championship starts last season at centre-back. It seems more likely, then, that Robinson (below) will rival Michael Dawson, Danny Fox, Joe Worrall and Tobias Figueiredo for a place in the centre.
Which perhaps explains why Forest are now allegedly keen to raid another second tier side, Middlesbrough, to sign their experienced Brazilian Fabio da Silva.
And the Northern Echo have shed more light on the situation. It is understood that Forest have indeed made formal contact with Middlesbrough about potentially signing the former Manchester United defender, who started the 2011 Champions League final against Barcelona.
The report even adds that Forest had offered £300,000 to sign Fabio last month, although this was immediately rejected by Middlesbrough.
It remains to be seen whether Karanka will return with a new bid for a player he signed in 2016 for £2 million from Cardiff City.
Fabio has just one year left on his contract so would not break the bank.
